Numerology is any of many systems, traditions or beliefs in a mystical or esoteric relationship between numbers and physical objects or living things.

Numerology and numerological divination were popular among early mathematicians, such as Pythagoras, but are no longer considered part of mathematics and are regarded as pseudomathematics by modern scientists.This is is similar to the historical relationships between astrology and astronomy, and between alchemy and chemistry.
Today, numerology is often associated with the occult, alongside astrology and similar divinatory arts.

Numerology is the study of numbers to determine a person’s life and his or her future. It is utterly hogwash. The idea that you should “consult the numbers,” that you were “born on a two day,” or have a “six life path” is fraudulently idiotic.

Here’s a nice case for you to read and shake your head over: Professional BS-er Glynis McCants has run the numerology on Michael Jackson (who is conveniently dead, and can’t sue her for libel) and discovered that he “was born on a two day” and he led a “six life path” – thus, he was a superstar.

For example:

- MJ was discovered when he was 5 years old.
- He was a member of the Jackson 5.
- Michael had planned a spooky 50 concert dates before he died on June 25, having aged 50 years.

OBVIOUSLY, he was a “5″ person, which clearly explains why he was “born on a two day” and had a “six life path.” There’s a whole story up at CNN.com full of hogwash like this – and the story’s tone is very serious. It’s funny.

McCants has magically divined others that fit her “six life path” theory: Britney Spears, Lindsay Lohan, and Sarah Palin all were “born on a two day,” so they were thrust into the public realm.
